Dancing and singing games

free vintage printable_dancing children image.jpg
Song and music is closely connected to language, rhythm, dance and movement. Song dances and singing games are activities that we engage in while we sing.

Sometimes the songs carry - both in words and in melody - knowledge about the world and society as it used to be. Dancing and singing games are as such bearers of culture. As well as having fun while we play, we get access to words and terms, rhythm and storytelling.

Music and singing games challenge the brain and our system of perception. Through such games children will develop their creative fantasy and thinking. It is social, fun and may strengthen our cultural identity and awareness of what we can achieve when we all play together.

Behind the links you find lyrics, sheet music and sound clips. This site is made for learning purposes, and the sound clips may vary in quality. The recordings appear as they are in the moment of singing, quite often without accompaniment, other than my own breathing noises, breaks in the wrong places, clicks and white noise. Sometimes I sing the wrong word and present the listener with doubtful intonation and a sloppy pronunciation. Sometimes I lack pulse and mess up the rhythm. In spite of these apparent lacks in quality compared to professional recordings by professional singers, I hope you can use them as they are; a means of accessing old or new songs in a fairly easy way.

On my site musikkrom you will find some of these children's songs, and also a large collection of canons and rounds (kanon)
